Cheeto Ryan

Born and raised in Memphis, TN, Cheeto Ryan has always been overwhelmed by the vast amount of poverty that burdened his community .The treatment of his community and geographical differences intrigued his curiosity of helping the community through a camera lens .A graduate of Memphis College of Art with a Bachelors in Fine Art.

Aspiring to be a social activist, Ryan has taught classes for a variety of schools, non profits. and organizations such as, Thrive Arts, The Boys and Girls Club, Carpenter Art Garden , and public schools to develop hands on youth programming and community projects, engaging with community members to establish and promote culture, and collaborating with community partners and local artists to create public art.

Experimenting between collage and photography, Ryan wants to alter the perception of topography and blight using his experiences through documentation and artifacts.The consciousness of his surroundings has formed a social activism that leverages his experiences through collecting materials and documenting the social life in different neighborhoods, in an attempt to reveal these layers and complexities.
